Agrippa by Robert Harris — the thrilling new novel set in Ancient Rome from the #1 bestselling author of Conclave and Dictator.
Julius Caesar is dead. Two teenage boys stand at the centre of the storm that will decide the future of Rome. One is Octavius, Caesar’s 17-year-old heir. The other is his closest friend, Agrippa — a commoner, a plebeian, already marked by the nickname that means “mother-killer.”
To claim the inheritance, they must fight the giants of the Roman world. Against the odds they win. Octavius becomes the Emperor Augustus. For twenty years they rule side by side: Agrippa the brilliant general and engineer, the man who wins the battles and builds the empire; Octavius the cunning, ruthless, unknowable master of politics.
Now Agrippa is fifty, ailing and alone. Betrayed and reflective, he retreats to the Bay of Naples and begins to write his memoirs. From his first meetings with Julius Caesar, through the struggle with Mark Antony and Cleopatra, the victory at Actium, and the wars of expansion, he recounts how one man has dominated his entire life.
As gripping and full of intrigue as Conclave, Agrippa is Robert Harris’s monumental return to Ancient Rome on the precipice of dictatorship — a story of loyalty, power, and the man history tried to forget
